- With Maruti set to phase out diesel engines by April 2020, the S-Cross will get a petrol engine soon.
- Likely to feature 1.5-litre mild-hybrid engine that powers the Ciaz and.
- Could be offered with both a 5-speed manual as well as an automatic option.
- Currently, the S-Cross is priced between Rs 8.86 lakh to Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-Delhi)

The petrol engine in question will be the company's 1.5-litre K15 motor that powers the Ciaz and the updated Ertiga. This engine makes 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque and is expected to be offered with more or less the same figures. The engine also makes use of a mild hybrid system with a dual battery setup similar to the. It will most likely be coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, an automatic transmission (which is not available at the moment) can also be expected. The engine is not BSVI-complaint yet, but expect it to be updated soon.

As far as prices are concerned, expect the petrol powered S-Cross to be cheaper than its diesel counterpart. Also, expect it to return some impressive fuel economy figures thanks to its mild hybrid system as well.

The news of Maruti Suzuki phasing out its diesel engines came as a complete surprise, but Maruti has hinted that they might also introduce a BSVI-complaint diesel engine, provided there is enough demand for the same. The in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel might make its way into the S-Cross as a result of this. The S-Cross 1.5 petrol, meanwhile, will face competition from the petrol variants of the, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur.
