2020 Honda City Spied For The First Time

The City has been an iconic car spanning 20 years and four iterations in the Indian market. While the latest facelift was launched in 2017, it is now slowly losing out to rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna in the mid-size sedan segment. However, Honda looks to take back its top spot with the fifth generation City, which has now been spotted testing for the first time.

Spy images have surfaced of the being tested in Thailand. The images reveal the new City sporting a camo-wrap to hide intricate details of the sedan. Despite that, it is clear that the next-gen City gets a cosmetic makeover both inside and out.

Starting from the front, the new City's design resembles some recent Honda models like the Accord. The new City will get wider headlamps with LED wraparounds, a thicker chrome strip, a wider grille and a big Honda badge at the centre. At the rear, despite the heavy camo wrap, it looks like the new City will get a similar set of tail lamps as the current car aside from a few styling tweaks. The images also reveal that it is a bit longer and wider than the current-gen City.

There's no word yet on the interior features and gizmos on the new City. But we can expect the next-gen City to receive some updates in that department along with some additional new features, which could include Honda's new lane-watch system and an electric parking brake.

Under the hood, the next-gen City is likely to retain the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder 119PS/145Nm petrol option as well as the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder 100PS/200Nm diesel options with necessary upgrades to meet BS6 emission norms. A petrol mild-hybrid variant could also be available for the India-spec City in order to give the Ciaz Smart Hybrid a tough time. The diesel variant may also get a CVT engine-gearbox combo like the.

The current-gen Honda City is priced between Rs 9.70 lakh and Rs 14.05 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The next-gen Honda City is likely to be priced at a premium over the current sedan.
