Maruti Suzuki Swift And WagonR Get BS6 Engines And Safety Updates

  • The updates see the prices of the Swift increase by up to Rs 17,000 depending on the variant.

After updating the Baleno and the Alto to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms, Maruti Suzuki has now updated the 1.2-litre petrol engine in the in accordance with the upcoming emission norms. Apart from the emission norms update, the Swift also gets additional safety features to make it compliant with the upcoming safety norms as well.

It must be mentioned that the Swift and WagonR's 1.2-litre K12B petrol motor only gets the BS6 emission norms update. As of now, the Wagon R's 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor hasn't been updated to meet the BS6 emission norms. Power and torque figures in the 1.2-litre K12B petrol motor remain unchanged after the BS6 update and the motor churns out 83PS of power and 113m of torque. The fuel efficiency though has seen a slight dip and the BS6 Swift and Wagon R now returns 21.4 kmpl as compared to the BS4 version's 22 kmpl.

The 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine in the Swift also hasn't received any updates as the carmaker will axe all diesel models from its portfolio post April 1, 2020.

The Swift also gets safety updates to make it compliant with the upcoming safety and crash test norms. All variants of the Swift now get dual airbags, ABS with EBD, driver and co-driver seatbelt warning, high speed alert and rear parking sensors as standard. Previously, there was no co-driver seatbelt warning and the parking sensors were limited to the top-spec Z trims only.

With the latest updates, has silently axed the base-spec LDi diesel variant of the Swift. The prices have also been bumped up by Rs 4,000 to Rs 17,000 depending on the variant you pick. Have a look at the table to see the difference in prices variant wise:

The Wagon R also sees a revision in prices after the BS6 update. While the 1.2-litre variants only get the BS6 update, Maruti has silently updated the prices for the 1.0-litre equipped variants as well. While we are waiting for the exact prices from the manufacturer, the Wagon R's 1.2-litre pricing will now reportedly start from Rs 5.10 lakh to Rs 5.91 lakh and the Wagon R's 1.0-litre range will now start from Rs 4.34 lakh to Rs 5.33 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Apart from the Swift and the Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki will soon update the Ciaz petrol in accordance with the upcoming emission norms and it, while the new WagonR is the top selling hatchback in its segment with rivals like the Tata Tiago and the Hyundai Santro.
