Tata Tigor Facelift Spied Will Get BS6-Compliant Petrol Engine

's Tigor is all set to get a facelift and the compact sedan was recently spotted testing on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. The previous update for the compact sedan was in October 2018 which included a new variant, cosmetic and feature updates. This time around though it might not be limited to cosmetics only.

The Tigor is currently available with a BS4-compliant 1.2-litre Revotron petrol motor and 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel motor. The petrol motor churns out 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque, while the diesel produces 70PS of power and 140Nm of torque. The Tigor also gets a sportier JTP variant which uses a more powerful 1.2-litre petrol motor. It churns out 114PS of power and 150Nm of torque. While both the petrol motors on the Tigor will be upgraded to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms, the diesel will face the axe.

The high costs of upgrading the diesel engine to comply with BS6 emission norms will result in smaller capacity diesels becoming unaffordable in the country. To that effect, Maruti Suzuki is also reported to.

The Tigor facelift is expected to hit roads before the end of this year or at the 2020 Auto Expo. When launched, it is likely to cost more than the current car which retails from Rs 5.48 lakh to Rs 7.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Tigor rivals the Ford Aspire, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Hyundai Xcent.
