Big Story

New Tata Altroz sports the Impact 2.0 Design Language and is based on the new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) Architecture.

Tata Motors is all set to launch the Altroz in India in January 2020. The vehicle will mark the entry of the carmaker in the premium hatchback segment, which is dominated by the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Now, a media report has claimed that the Tata Altroz bookings will start next month.

The homegrown auto major had earlier announced that the Tata Altroz launch would take place in mid-2019. However, the premium hatchback would have been offered with BS4 engines then. The launch was postponed to January 2020 following the carmaker's decision to launch the Altroz with BS6 motors from the very beginning.

According to a report by Autocar India, Tata Motors dealerships across the country will start accepting Altroz bookings from December 4, 2019, with the booking amount being Rs 21,000. On offer will be three BS6-compliant engines -- 1.2-litre petrol (85 hp), 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (102 hp) and 1.5-litre diesel (90 hp) -- with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox, the report claimed.

Tata Altroz's maiden unit was rolled out from the carmaker's Pune plant earlier this week. Showcased at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show in March 2019, the premium hatchback carries the Impact 2.0 Design Language that we also see in Tata Harrier and is based on the new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) Architecture.

The upcoming Altroz gets features like split headlamps, piano black ORVMs, automatic climate control, multi-function steering wheel, 7-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and ambient lighting.

While there is no official word from Tata Motors regarding the Altroz price, we are expecting it to come in the range of Rs 5.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
